Deputy Minister of Information and Culture and Spokesman of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Zabiullah Mujahid in a Twitter post said that the Afghan delegation led by acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Motaqi met with Ahmad Masoud and Ismail Khan.
Zabiullah Mujahid said that Masoud and Khan were given assurance about their safe return to Afghanistan.
"Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan tries to make the situation of Afghanistan safe and conducive for everyone so that there is no opportunity for people to oppose IEA." Reads the Twitter post.
Ahmad Masoud is the leader of the so-called anti-Taliban Resistance Force also known as the National Resistance Force (NRF) while Ismail Khan was a local leader in western Herat province who was surrendered to the Taliban during the collapse of the province.
Ismail Khan then fled to Iran.
Earlier, the spokesman of NRF Sibghatullah Ahmadi denied the meeting.
In the meantime, rumors have it that the Taliban will give Afghanistan embassy in Tehran to a close aide of Ismail Khan but the IEA is yet to confirm.
